Mark Delmont

Mark Delmont is a second-generation Haitian Jamaican textile artist from Miami Gardens. He up-cycles stagnant or used materials from the earth to make environmental pieces that reflect the times. The totality of Delmont’s work involves expressing the candid aesthetic of black Miami. The focus is on inclusion because black and brown people are left out of history almost as if our big bang theory is slavery.

Delmont uses his self-taught skills in needlework, painting, mixed media and creative programming to shine light on the stories and lives of less glorified identities such as blue collar workers, neighborhood folk, the invisible people, etc.

To date, Mark’s practice has been concentrated on creating collections composed primarily of dramatic portraiture and wide perspective imagery of black iconography via the construction of “fiber sculptures” molded with chicken wire, fiber and construction materials on wood frames.
