Robert Colescott

Odalisque: Charcoal Nudes

Exhibition Dates: December 1st, 2019 - January 4th, 2020

The exhibition comprises of sensual drawings created by the artist during the 1980s; this outstanding fragment of Robert Colescott’s work in which the figure is the spotlight of each piece.

Odalisque Charcoals Nudes, is a humbled ovation to African American women through Robert Colescott’s eyes. It is an exquisite selection of drawings in which simple forms, tonality and intimacy invite us to remain quiet. There is no set or background disturbing these moments. The subjects are comfortable in their private space, appreciating their bodies and playing with their curves. These drawings unfold a sensuality that reminds us of those fleeting sketches that were made during the avant-garde rage in Paris. In Odalisque Charcoals Nudes we have access to the muses that inspired Colescott's life and work.
