“Paradox: Surfaces of Self” presents Quarm’s interests towards social evolution influenced by political, historical and cultural expression. The experiences the artist studied for this body of work, reflect a cultural dialogue and how he calls it, a hybrid culture. The artist found a way of merging both cultures by using the traditional Western style of painting and adding African print patterns. The exhibition invites the viewer to have a conversation with the works as an opportunity to merge cultures.
