Antonio Carreño
Antonio Carreño was born 1963 in the Dominican Republic and attended the National School of Art in the capital of Santo Domingo. Antonio migrated to the United States in 1980.
He furthered his studies at the Art Students League in New York. He continued the Surrealism in Latin American art. He creates a world of spirituality. In this world you can read the lyrics within the carefully executed brush strokes and you can feel the playfulness in his method of expression. Abstraction is what offered Antonio his way to express himself but letting the symbols reveal themselves to each individual viewer how they'd like to perceive them.
Antonio Carreño has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including the Parish Gallery, Georgetown. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'She as Constellation #2' which sold at Bonhams & Butterfields, Los Angeles 'Sunset Estate Auction ' in 2011. There have been several articles about Antonio Carreño, including 'Morris Museum Executive Director Curates: Abstract Art from the Permanent Collection' written for ArtDaily in 2009.
