Nanette Carter – In the Garden: The Animist

October 13, 2012 – November 6, 2012

Nature has been Nanette Carter’s muse for several decades. Using nature as a metaphor, her series “Bouquet for Loving” and “In the Garden” speak to the mysteries of the natural world. Carter deeply believes that all natural phenomena possess an individual spirit or soul. “There is still so much that we do not know about the universe; its’ mysteries abound,” said Carter. “Bouquet for Loving” pays homage to Carter’s mentor and fellow abstractionist painter, the late Alvin Loving. However, it is also a reaction to the lack of civility that has taken place throughout the world. “Alvin Loving was a most generous and giving individual and the Bouquets are to honor this spirit of benevolence,” says Carter.
